The Setting
La Sirena sits among the several quaint beach villages located sporadically throughout the area - villages which are lively with friendly people and offer a view into the local culture and traditions. Ancient ruins at Fort Santiago in Portobelo provide a glimpse into the days of Christopher Columbus’s travels through the area while hand-made crafts from local artists reinforce today’s customs.
The Resort’s landscape transitions from a palm-lined beach, through a tropical hardwood forest, to the grass-covered hills overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Once a coconut and banana plantation, the palm grove canopy extends the full length of the site and provides a striking setting for the beach as well as a shaded refuge from the tropical heat. Lined with several small sand beach enclaves is perhaps the most striking feature of the site, a wide coral shelf extending from the shore.
Numerous shallow salt water pools form a marine ecosystem within the coral shelf system featuring coral outcroppings, sea urchin pods, and a variety of other marine life. Grass covered hills gently rise to the back ridge to an elevation where the property benefits from a consistent light ocean breeze which provides natural air conditioning as well as unobstructed views to the ocean.
